Terms of Use
The agreement between you and Dote
Effective18 July 2026 · Last updated18 July 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Dote, the relationship app made by Aptnotion, and any pages at dote.aptnotion.com. By creating an account or using Dote, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app. See also our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect and why.
01Acceptance of terms
By downloading, installing, or using Dote, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. We may update these Terms from time to time as described in Section 11 — continuing to use Dote after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
02Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to create a Dote account. If you’re under the age of majority where you live, you confirm you have a parent or guardian’s permission to use Dote. By using the app, you confirm the information above is true.
03Your account & pairing
You’re responsible for the activity on your account and for keeping your sign-in method (Sign in with Apple or Google) secure. Dote pairs two people together using an invite code — by sharing your code, you’re choosing who joins as your partner. You can unpair or delete your account at any time from Settings.
04Your content
“Your content” means anything you add to Dote — mood entries and notes, milestones, gift hints, and any photo you set as a background. You keep ownership of it. By adding it to Dote, you give us a limited license to store and display it as the app is designed to work — which, for shared content, means showing it to your paired partner.
Don’t add content you don’t have the right to share, or that infringes someone else’s rights.
05Acceptable use
Dote is built for real couples to use with each other. When using it, you agree not to:
- Harass, abuse, or threaten your partner or anyone else through the app.
- Use Dote for anything illegal, or upload unlawful content.
- Pair with someone under false pretenses, or misuse the invite-code system.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app.
- Interfere with or disrupt Dote’s servers or infrastructure, or attempt to access accounts that aren’t yours.
- Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) against the app or its API.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section — see Section 9.
06Dote Plus subscriptions
Dote offers an optional Dote Plus subscription (monthly or yearly) that unlocks additional features. Subscriptions are billed and managed entirely through the Apple App Store, under Apple’s own terms.
- Price and billing period are shown before you purchase, in your local currency.
- Subscriptions automatically renew unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your payment method is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period, at the same price unless we’ve notified you of a change in advance.
- Manage or cancel your subscription any time in iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals — you keep Plus access through the end of the period you already paid for.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under their refund policies — we don’t have the ability to issue refunds directly.
07Intellectual property
Dote — the app, its design, logo, and branding — is owned by Aptnotion and protected by copyright and trademark law. These Terms give you a personal, non-transferable license to use the app; they don’t transfer any ownership of Dote to you.
08Disclaimers & limitation of liability
Dote is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. We don’t guarantee the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or meet every expectation — and Dote is not a substitute for professional relationship or mental-health counseling.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Aptnotion isn’t liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Dote. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us, if any, in the 12 months before the claim.
09Termination
You can stop using Dote and delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, misuse the app, or if we discontinue the service — where practical, we’ll try to give notice first.
10Apple App Store terms
Because you may have downloaded Dote from the Apple App Store, this section applies to you:
- This agreement is between you and Aptnotion only — not Apple — and Apple has no responsibility for the app or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Dote.
- If Dote fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price if any — beyond that, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Apple isn’t responsible for addressing any claims relating to Dote, including product liability, legal compliance, or intellectual-property claims.
- Apple isn’t responsible for investigating, defending, or resolving any claim that Dote infringes a third party’s intellectual property rights.
- You confirm you’re not located in a country under a U.S. government embargo, and aren’t on any U.S. government restricted-party list.
- Apple and Apple’s subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and may enforce them against you.
11Governing law & changes
These Terms are governed by the laws of [your governing state/country], without regard to conflict-of-law principles. We may update these Terms as Dote evolves — we’ll update the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes, we’ll let you know inside the app.
